Free the Pubes

Free the Pubes! is a lo-fi digital art project I made about taboos around pubic hair.

Because feelings about body hair and bodies, in general, can be deep-rooted and emotionally charged, I wanted the tone to be light-hearted, radical, and non-judgmental.

Visual inspiration came from the 90’s internet love affair with hard shadows (very beachy!) and DIY realness from the golden age of zines. The illustrations are a combination of photo collage and drawing with a computer mouse.

I originally built it with CSS and HTML just because I love those coding languages, but today it mostly exists as an Instagram page.

One day, when we are not in a state of constant crisis, I hope to revisit it and bring a little joy to people with wild pubes.
